Premise

Doctor Doom appears at the skyscraper which is home to the Fantastic Four, and quickly surrounds the entire building in a net. He threatens to destroy them if they don't come with him willingly, and Reed advises them to play along, recognizing Doom's voice as an old college roommate, brilliant in science but interested in magic. The four go to Doom's castle, where Doom sends Reed, Ben and Johnny into the past to recover Blackbeard's treasure chest, while still holding Sue as hostage to ensure their cooperation. The three do go back to the past, disguising the Thing to avoid terrifying the locals. They eventually join a pirate crew and easily rout an attacking ship, only to have the pirates declare the disguised Thing their leader, naming him Blackbeard. Emptying the chest of its treasure and refilling it with chains, they prepare to return to the present. Doom brings them back, revealing that the gems once belonged to Merlin, and that they would grant invincibility to whomever owned them. Disappointed by the contents of the chest, Doom tries to kill the trio, but Sue turns invisible and helps them escape. Doom flees by jetpack while his castle burns, and the four are unable to follow.
